Stbd hull sanded, faired; hooks inside

Pirates defending the starboard hull

Liam and Cora helped “decorate” the inside of the starboard hull.  We replaced the sole and then drilled holes for 1-1.5″ gold hooks.  Cora strung up a hammock for her animals.  Liam tried hanging jackets, flash lights, and light sabers.  They even sanded off some errant epoxy “pokers” from the ceiling.

Scott and Kevin sanded down the two S1 coats, knocking off the top of the raised grain.  Then Scott filled in all gouges, holes, and major grain/cracks with wood filler epoxy mix.  Should be ready to sand and glass the deck next time!

Port hull flipped, keel rounded; S decks sand-sealed

Scott; 6.5 hrs | Photos

Really cathartic to see plane shavings fly off the bottom of the ole port hull.  Got it flipped thanks to fixed halogen driveway light.  Then hand-planed the keel from square to round.  A good plane properly adjusted is a beautiful, therapeutic thing.  Driveway and hull are clean.

Starboard hull got a good sand (knocked down the old raised wood) and then another S1 coat.

Added a task list and expense spreadsheet link to the About page!

Starboard hull clean and sealed

Scott, 2 hr | Photos

Worked on removing tape from bottom edge of shear stringers. Round rasp rules! Got about 1/3 way around.

Mixed up 750ml of S1 and waited a couple hours. Then coated the (very thirsty) top sides and newly cleaned shear stringer (1/3 done; 2/3 left dry). Stinky stuff for a couple hours, but does look like it did the old wood some good.

Finally finished cleaning cat stains (stern portion), including bleach solution spray down. Hammering that shit with the pressure nozzle on the garden hose and then pumping it out with the wet vac is awesome. Now all smells dandy and with the garage door open, below-decks are drying nicely within 24 hours.

Starboard hull cleaner, de-taped

Scott 1.5 hr; Liam, Cora 0.5 hr

Liam and Cora helped me clean out the starboard hull this afternoon.  Armed with sprayers, blue gloves, scratchy sponges, and old cloth diapers, they dove right in with flashlights in hand.  After a bit, morale degraded and most of the crew climbed topside and began swabbing the deck.  Overall, the tiki got a lot cleaner and we all got pretty dirty.

After dinner, I hosed and bleached out the hull from bow to main hatch.  That shop vac is awesome at sucking up bilge water.

Even later in the evening, I scraped (most effectively with hand plane) the old masking tape from the sheer stringer.  That led to some obsessive shaping of the bow/stern handles and nearby fillets.  The round rasp was great for this and the handles are now smooth to the touch.

Next up: finish cat poop cleanse and then S1 the topsides!
