The phrenemid amphipod is an astounding creature that inspired the monstrous life form featured in the movie Alien/s. When carrying eggs, the female kills a barrel-shaped salp, eats out it's insides, and maintains the barrel as a protective home for herself. Holding onto the barrel with her prominent pincers, she is an elegant and active navigator of the planktonic world.
