This juvenile pufferfish was captured during a neuston (surface) tow in a Gulf SStream warm core eddy. It was about 5 cm in diameter (when puffed) and proved to be voracious. It ate a number of fish fry that were longer than itself! Puffer was also tenacious, surviving nearly 4 weeks in the Cramer aquarium, a wide range of water temperatures, and only intermittent feeding. It was released in a patch of warm water encountered S of Sable Island and has likely eaten its way back to the Caribbean.
