  Autumn 1997: Generate dissertation proposal with attention to satellite data and upcoming field research opportunities
  Winter 1997: Take general examination
  Spring-Summer 1998: Optimize opportunities for field data acquisition

• Year 4
  Autumn 1998 - Summer 1999: Analyze field and other data

• Year 5
  Autumn 1999: Generate data products
  Winter - Spring 2000: Compose, defend, and publically present dissertation
