January-May 2001 Plan for Scott Veirs
Progress:
- Acquired exceptional CTDT+ data during August, 2000, Flow Mow cruise
- Delivered preliminary analysis of CTDT+ and current meter data, AGU Fall meeting
- Initiated numerical modeling of hydrothermal plumes (Bill Lavelle)
- Drafted new dissertation proposal and re-organized PhD committee
- Performed duties during first quarter as Lead TA
- Attended educational sessions at fall GSA and AGU meetings
Plan:
Research Problem:
What is the best estimate of the flux of heat from
the Main Endeavour hydrothermal vent field, and how
does the flux affect local to regional hydrography?
Approach:
Supplement the ABE-derived Flow Mow heat flux estimates with a combination of
independent estimates, modeled plume distributions and corresponding heat flux
estimates, and insights from laboratory experiments.
