Progress on previous goals
Research:
- Major events
- Received outstanding paper award for Fall AGU poster
- Delivered poster at RIDGE Educational ISS meeting
- Took MGG option advice to drop lab component (see revised thesis outline)
- Near-bottom heat flux publication/chapter
- Figures and prose nearly complete
- Aiming for mid-late June submittal to G^3
- Initial coherence and phase lag calculations
- Puff model used to weight "instantaneous" N/S heat flux calculations
- Upper-layer heat flux publication/chapter
- Initial model runs explain No/So/MEF obs as pooling/streaming, but
NoMEF station observed signal is likely from High Rise.
- Need to implement ability to sample model at moving point
(to simulate field observations)
Outline of 6-month plan
Research:
- Jun03: This meeting: Reading committee and final exam timing
- Jun~30: Submit near-bottom heat flux paper to G^3
- Sep~1: Appoint reading committee and circulate draft thesis
- Oct~1: Final examination
- Nov~1: Submit final draft of thesis (<60 days after final exam)
- Dec~1: Submit upper-layer heat flux paper
Teaching and the future:
- Continue to minimize teaching activities until thesis completion
- Scouting for short-term ops to develop local/Pacific environmental/marine
science courses in winter/spring 2003. Possibilites with Sea
Education Association, Seattle Central, and Ocean Inquiry Project.
- Seeking long-term NW research/teaching position starting in fall 2003.
