Kathy Whipple wrote Scott Veirs in an email in November, 2009:

"I mentioned the William J. Beattie narrative about his trip to Ireland in the 1870s to Leslie. Since you (Scott) referred to reading it while in Philadelphia, I know you have a copy. He wrote that when he spent the summer with my Grandmother, Margaret Beattie Brant, and family in Columbus Ohio about 1938 or so. Grandmother talked him into writing it down and she typed it up for her children. I gave Nancy Judson a copy of that narrative and of a typed version of a letter from Nancy Elizabeth Beattie Nevin (Aunt Puss). Aunt Puss wrote that to Grandmother about our ancestors. I don't know what happened to the original handwritten copies, probably long gone since I have Grandmother's recollections. The overseas generations in my family history database were based on names/locations in WJB's and Aunt Puss's information. None of it is confirmed with primary records. Irish records are sparse.
When I was in Co. Antrim Ireland in 2000, I had one afternoon to try to find Park Gate and perhaps signs of our Beattie. I got the flavor of the area, but that is why I have dreamed of returning. As I told Leslie, my plans are to go around Sept. 28th 2010 and stay about 10 days in Northern Ireland. Some of that time will be at a 'festival' sponsored by the Ballymoney Museum with workshops for genealogy in the area. I'd very much like to find a "living" cousin in Ireland. Wish me luck :-). "
