Frank Valerius Rhodes 1855- Law. Class of 1880.

Frank V. Rhodes, of the Baltimore bar, member of the firm of Rhodes & Rhodes, and who taught school for twelve years previous to entering the legal profession, was born in Frederick county, Maryland, December 9, 1855, a son of George and Eliza (Cunningham) Rhodes, and on the paternal side is a descendant of a family of planters whose settlement in this state antedated the Revolution. His American ancestor came from England, and in almost every succeeding generation until comparatively late years his descendants were planters. Two of Mr. Rhodes' brothers were soldiers in the Confederate service during the Civil War, one holding a commission as captain and the other being a sergeant. The Cunninghams were Pennsylvanians through several generations. Mr. Rhodes obtained his early education in public schools in Frederick and Montgomery counties, and graduated from Brookville Academy in 1871. Afterward he took a course in economics at Johns Hopkins University, and from 1873 to 1885 was a professional teacher. While filling a pedagogue's chair, he made the course of University of Maryland Law School, graduating from that institution with the degree of LL. b: in 1880, and afterward took a special course in law at the University of Virginia. In 1885 he began general practice in Baltimore, and in 1890 became partner with his brother (C. C. Rhodes) in the firm of Rhodes & Rhodes. During the twenty years of his professional career Mr. Rhodes has taken an active interest in political affairs, but has devoted his attention closely to law practice. He is a member of the Maryland State Bar Association, Bar Association of Baltimore City, University Club, Baltimore Country Club, Churchman's Club, Phi Gamma Delta, and is a vestryman of St. Andrew's Church.

Cause of death: Old age?
Note: Scanned Veirs ancestry from Stephen Veirs has note that both J. Montgomery and Elizabeth Ann Rhodes were buried in Monocacy cemetery. But Aunt Barbara Ro remembered father talking about her dying in Oakland (probably of old age "on schedule" likely living with a sister?)... and Annie Reese corroborated CA death but MD burial via findagrave site.
